Hiking.2014CFSuccessPic2.10312014I began my fitness transformation in January of 2013 when I joined a local women’s fitness program. This program included the weekly weigh in, body measurements, nutrition program, and 2 times a week full body conditioning workouts. Although I saw improvements with about 13 pounds of weight loss and a progressive loss in inches it was happening rather slowly. It wasn’t until the fall of that year that I was introduced to CrossFit. I participated in an introductory class for 8 weeks, and I started to notice significant changes in my body over this short period of time. Unfortunately or fortunately, the intro course did not continue so I looked into CrossFit Maricopa and started in January of 2014. I have been dedicated to CrossFit Maricopa for the past 10 months and I have lost about 23 pounds, and have seen significant changes in my body, meaning I can actually see muscles forming! I have dropped 2 dress sizes and I feel stronger and confident in my physical abilities.
The other side of my transformation includes following a Paleo diet. When I joined CrossFit Maricopa Kelly Bradley offered a session on the health benefits of following a Paleo diet, her presentation was so informative that I started to read more about this lifestyle change and began following this new way of eating. Eating clean and making better food choices has also contributed to my weight loss, and I feel energized and healthier (no more bloating feeling).
My improvements are also a result of the coaching and support I have received from the coaches as well as the encouragement from the athletes. Thanks to coaches like Tealdo, Kelly T., and Scott who are continually encouraging me. I even joined a Rowing Challenge expecting to row 500 meters a day throughout the month, which I thought was good enough. Well, I ended up rowing 10,000 meters within one hour, another 12,000 meters on another day, and followed this pattern until I exceeded the 51,000 goal within 11 days. Keep in mind this was a 30 day challenge, and I far exceeded my own expectations. Because of this challenge I even encouraged my 71 year old mother to begin rowing.
CrossFit Maricopa has helped me change my life and at 47 I feel better than I did when I was in my twenties. My coworkers, family, and friends are amazed at my transformation and some of them have been changing their eating habits, are more open to learning about CrossFit and just being healthier and fit themselves. I am definitely still a work in progress and I have a great deal more to accomplish, but today I am so very satisfied with my results and how following a Paleo diet coupled with CrossFit training has transformed me to be a better and healthier version of myself.
