Ray’s Story: “At 34 years old I was at the heaviest I had ever been in my life. 265lbs on a 5 foot 5 inch frame was killing me, literally. Changing my diet and walking helped me lose 20lbs in a few short months. Then my oldest son introduced me to jiu jitsu which I immediately fell in love with. Training jiu jitsu 3-4 days a week and eating healthy (what I thought was healthy) I was able to get down to 205-210lbs.
Still wanting to get under 200lbs and feel even better I found Crossfit Maricopa in May of 2012. Starting with 1 day a week for a few months I was able to see results in my recovery and my cardio endurance. With advise from Scott and the 5:15am Friday crew I started following the Paleo diet strictly for 30 days in June and was able to get down to 195lbs. Seeing the results with only a small change in diet and 1 day a week I’ve began 2 days a week and have made Paleo eating a lifestyle change and I’m now down another 10lbs and still slowly dropping.
The key piece of education I’ve learned is you can’t out train a bad diet. Crossfit has also helped me with my jiu jitsu and I’ve dropped down 2 weight divisions in competition because of it. Every member in our box is supportive and always willing to help you get to where you want to be. If I was able to get in the box more than 2 days a week I can only imagine what gains I would be able to make.
